About
I have no special technological ability, but over the last couple of years have ended up with a media centre system that is taking care of recording TV, receiving podcasts, managing my photos and streaming it around the house.
I have had some issues to work around along the way. But it is surprisingly easy to set up easy to use and easy to understand.
I tend to get a little bit obsessive by nature when something interests me, and have spent a lot of (too much, often) time looking at the best ways to set things up, the best things to use and the best ways to get the result you want, and of course what can be done. Good solutions are out there, and the information and support is there. A lot more than I expected. It is new stuff, but it works pretty well.
I have learnt a lot and want to share how things can be done, help people with the decision making process, and encourage people to try it, because it is a lot easier to do than it may be credited.
I want to do a few things with this site
- Talk about the lesser known software that is out there that is cheap, easy to use and works really well, and why I preferred it to some other options
- Illustrate setting up systems so you can access your music, photos and other media easily
- And thoughts related to this stuff as I think about it again, or am prompted to remember its importance.
- You’ll end up with a lot of media (photos, music, films etc) and it is important to be able to find them again. I’ll talk about investing a time to get yourself set so that you’ll be able to find your media when you want it.
- I have a bit of a (cheap) poker interest that I’ve developed over the last year or some, so that may get a look in too.
- As I make decisions about what I do with this site and learn more I will discuss what decisions I made and what I had to find out to make things happen. After all there are so few people writing about setting up a blog.
Why TryHud? It is sort of a play on trying things out because they can make them work. And it is pretty hard to think of a domain name that hasn’t been taken.
